Responsible Care

What is Responsible Care?

“Responsible Care“ is a voluntary, global initiative of the chemical industry. Individual firms have imposed strong self-regulation in order to improve the health, safety and environmental situations in their respective countries.

The chemical associations in each country set the requirements for receipt of a Responsible Care certificate.

The idea for Responsible Care started in Canada. In 1984, the Canadian Chemical Association established the guidelines for the initiative, Responsible Care.

Some years later, the European Chemical Association (CEFIC) took up the torch, with the ambitious goal of implementing the program in all the chemical associations of Europe.

Our mother company, DONAUCHEM GmbH, Austria, is not merely a member but also one of the first companies in Austria to have been scrutinised and to have received certification.
